If there are any spelling/grammar mistakes or if there's something that doesn't make sense please tell me so I can fix it!

The finished work: [link]

Edit: This is old! I use clipping masks for each stage rather than selecting! It's much faster.

Your welcome, I'm glad it helped c:
Though I made this quite a while ago. Now I use clipping masks over the base color layer instead of selecting it. It just makes things a lot easier!

If you want. I don't really mind since I don't consider to be my technique. Its just a mixture of what I've learnt from others and messing around in photoshop c:

It might be easier if you show me what your having difficulty with. Download this and highlight what you don't understand with a red line or something. Then send it back to me and I'll try to describe it in an easier way c:

Just to let you know!

An easier way to color is to 'lock' the base color layer after you've applied the initial solid base. Once you lock the layer, you can't go out of the colored figure you've just created, so it makes applying gradients and such a breeze. Also, you don't have to worry about 'jaggies' since there won't be any. :3

Thanks for the tip c:

I know about locking but I've only used it to color line art. I think I'll do some experimenting!

You mean the base color? Yeah I use the magic wand tool. I go to the layer its on. Select all the area around the color, then I use "select inverse." Then you can go on to any other layer using the same selection.
